Quantum point contact in a compressible Quantum Hall liquid
We consider electron transport through a quantum point contact between compressible Quantum Hall liquids and derive the contact’s impedance function for both diffusive and ballistic regimes of the bulk electron motion. In either regime, the tunneling current deviates from a power-law behavior I ∼ V 1/ν expected on the basis of the single-mode chiral Luttinger liquid phenomenology.

We elaborate on a theory of electronic transport through a quantum point contact (QPC) in the Quantum Hall (QH) regime, which does not discriminate between compressible and incompressible QH liquids, and accounts for both diffusive and ballistic regimes of the bulk electron motion. In either regime we find departures from the accustomed chiral Luttinger liquid behavior. The results suggest that...
متن کاملDouble point contact in quantum Hall line junctions.
We show that multiple point contacts on a barrier separating two laterally coupled quantum Hall fluids induce Aharonov-Bohm (AB) oscillations in the tunneling conductance. These quantum coherence effects provide new evidence for the Luttinger liquid behavior of the edge states of quantum Hall fluids. For a two point contact, we identify coherent and incoherent regimes determined by the relative...
متن کاملAnisotropy in the Compressible Quantum Hall State
Using a mean field theory on the von Neumann lattice, we study compressible anisotropic states around ν = l+ 1/2 in the quantum Hall system. The Hartree-Fock energy of the UCDW are calculated self-consistently. In these states the unidirectional charge density wave (UCDW) seems to be the most plausible state. We show that the UCDW is regarded as a collection of the one-dimensional lattice fermi...

In this report we summarize a recent progress in exploration of correlated two-dimensional electron states in partially filled high Landau levels. At a mean-field Hartree-Fock level they can be described as charge-density waves, either unidirectional (stripes) or with the symmetry of the triangular lattice (bubbles). Thermal and quantum fluctuations have a profound effect on the stripe density ...
